White uPVC fascias and soffits are one of the first things to look tired on a house. A green film builds up on north-facing runs, and black streaks form where rainwater runs over the face of the gutters. Composite and timber cladding develops algae and grey weathering in a similar way, especially behind planting or close to the ground. Left alone, the film builds up year on year and becomes harder to shift.
These surfaces scratch, streak and, in the case of timber, raise grain easily under high pressure, and water forced behind cladding boards can cause problems. Soft washing applies a cleaning and biocide solution at low pressure, followed by a gentle rinse or brush where needed. For black gutter streaks, which are often a bonded film of pollution and carbon, a specific gutter cleaner and hand agitation are usually needed alongside the soft wash.
